A big well done to Gerry our joiner for completing the gruelling Lakeland 55K , he ran with his daughter Vicki and they made a great team. The entrance fee was a birthday present from Vicki for her Dad to celebrate his 60th birthday – we know he doesn’t look any where near it! Top tip Gerry when its the next big one drop a few massive hints about your what you would like to do – well done great achievement.
We are very proud to sponsor the Ambleside U12 football team and what a cracker of a season they have had did the league and cup double this year and then carried on to win the plate in the Heathwaite final. Some great football must be the go faster kits from the Ambleside Salutation Hotel & Spa!
A great day was had at the traditional Ambleside Rushbearing where children parade around the village carrying rushes and adults carry the decorated moss bearings with beautiful flowers. The parade then heads to the Church to lay the rushes which dates way back to the days when they used the rushes as flooring and changed yearly. After a short service ( and the rushbearing hymn!) the children collect a huge piece of homemade Gingerbread ( a reward for the parade!) and a picnic tea change out of their Sunday best into their sports gear for flat races – with prizes in the school field. The highlight then is the fell race up Todd Crag with a winners Trophy the record of 10 minutes 34 seconds has yet to be broken – but we came really close this year the fastest for some time !
