Well it’s been a busy few weeks so busy in fact that March just flown by and here we are in April already. We had plenty to keep us on our toes with our fabulous foot tapping Jazz weekend (another one is planned for October 2014 – check out our website) Civil Engineers dinner, Ambleside Sports AGM, busy Mother’s Day Lunch, as well as re furbishing a couple of rooms – no wonder March has flown!.
We are delighted to announce that Oxley’s Blue Fish Spa have had a mini makeover themselves! With the addition of a fabulous hair salon which will be open soon- don’t worry we will keep you posted. We think Hair at Oxley’s will be a great addition to the Spa and we cant wait to try it out (no more bad hair days for us!). We are sure the opening is bound to be a ‘hair raising’ event……. watch this space.
Let me introduce myself my name is Stoli and I live with Paul (hotel General Manager) in a very nice house in Ambleside. I have my own self designed room downstairs and even have my own “key”. Sometimes I wander upstairs to lie in front of our large wood burner and relax after a hard days walking and eating.
I am used to being photographed Best Western have recently photographed me for a brochure to promote there dog friendly hotels.
I am 9 years old and suffer the usual old age dog problems. Paul takes me to see a nice vet locally if I am ill and who even removes sticks from my throat which I love picking up from my local river. I love walking the Hills and Dales of the Lakes and I’m particularly good to take out providing you mention the word “biscuits”.
I would love to see and talk to all my doggy friends when you can come to the Hotel. I can show you good doggy walks and pubs where you are made very welcome and are even given biscuits on arrival.
Please contact the hotel with your photo’s and tell me about yourselves, I will try to include them in my next blog.
I am told that lucky dogs may be able to have a photo taken with me at the Hotel.
I will now “Paws” for thought and finish my blog. Looking forward the hearing from you all with your news for my next monthly blog.

We are also keeping busy with a little refurbishment room 101 is having a complete make over and should be ready soon, we are looking forward to the exciting new scheme. It’s certainly keeping our maintenance gang of Doddy, Gerry, and Stuart on their toes and out of mischief!

Mike Durkin our Head Chef (aka wild man of Windermere) celebrated a special birthday this week, you know the ones that require a zero on the end! He started his birthday off with a birthday dip in the lake of course and then attended the Bond Dinner here at the hotel (no not the 007 kind!). The 187th Annual Dinner to celebrate the Ambleside Association for the Prosecution of Felons, a tradition that dates back to 1813.We managed to interrupt the proceedings to present Mike with a birthday cake just to keep him in the lime light after his TV appearance. We are sure he has lot’s more celebration to do – got to make the most of it!
Wishing you all a very Happy New Year and our best wishes for 2014.
Our New Year celebrations were fabulous everyone enjoyed themselves, still busy with guest’s arriving today and tomorrow for the weekend. ‘Our’ Charlotte on reception got the New Year off to a great if chilly start by taking her first dip in Lake Windermere. She was in safe hands or should we say flippers- with our own celebrity chef Mike aka the Wild Man of Windermere! They both enjoyed the early morning swim and Mike is hoping she will try the Great North Swim in June – looks like we could have quite a team entering from the hotel & Leisure Club!
Merry Christmas, it’s been a busy one with lots of fabulous Christmas Party nights and festive goings on leading up to the big day here! Our Three night Christmas package has just come to a close and a great time was had by all. We are now getting ready for our New Year extravaganza to welcome in 2014. The main man himself took time to pop in and see us all at the hotel on Christmas Day- we all enjoyed seeing him!
Mike Durkin our Head Chef has been enjoying his usual dips and swims in Lake Windermere in all weathers ….. brrrr. He was recently joined by our friends from BEST WESTERN who wanted to catch his antics on film (just to prove he is totally bonkers wild swimming all year round!). They had a great day’s filming and hopefully some of the footage will be used on a BW advert for the new outdoor programme ‘Out and About’ ITV 8pm Friday 1st of November. So keep your eyes peeled you may just catch a glimpse of our Mike in action !

The new entrance on the front of the hotel is almost finished this leads into a new area of the restaurant which is ideal for private parties. We are just waiting the arrival of our new furniture for the front of the hotel which will be exciting! Paul our GM has been busy with the Great North Run finishing in a very respectful 2 hours 30 mins and Sue our GM has enjoyed entering the Cross Bay Walk for the first time – think this was done at a more leisurely pace!
